LADY GAGA has come up with a novel way of saving money on hats - create a free one using your own hair.

The Bad Romance star aptly debuted her wacky creation as she stepped into the role of Polaroid's new Chief Creative Officer during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas yesterday.

It was the first stop for busy GaGa on a convention crawl around Sin City - she also unveiled her own brand of headphones to raise funds for BONO's AIDS-combating (RED) charity.

Speaking about her involvement with (RED), she told her high-flying business audience: "I was working with Bono on (RED) for his friend's birthday party and I changed the words for acoustic Poker Face to be about the organisation.

"He's really changed the model for how charities function with large corporations.

"What's really exciting about this is that all the money that (RED) will make off these headphones will go directly to helping people that are affected by the AIDS epidemic in Africa."

The first folk to get a peak at GaGa's outrageous barnet were those at the Polaroid show, where she stressed her "creative partnership" with the camera firm was not an endorsement deal.

During a Q&A session, GaGa admitted she was "outraged" when Polaroid went bankrupt in 2001, adding: "I'm interested in bringing it back and combining it with the digital era and making something new.

"We won't be selling cameras with my face on them.

"I'm working on bringing the instant film camera back as part of the future."
